History

With 5,000 square feet of greenhouses, Michael Stubbs started Mt. Newton Greenhouses in 1980. Michael began by growing crops of statice and outdoor mums to be sold on the United Flower Growers (UFG) Auction in Burnaby, BC. By 1985, Mike had doubled the size of the greenhouses and filled the extra space with snapdragons, asters, larkspur, and sunflowers — which would become Mt. Newton’s most popular product. Ten years after first starting out, the greenhouses were 20,000 square feet and sunflowers, celosia, and snaps had become the main crops.

In 1999, Mt. Newton expanded its services and began filling orders for Victoria florists through a combination of our own product, items from the UFG floral auction and imported product. During the last ten years, Mt. Newton has grown through word of mouth and we are now the predominant floral supplier on the Island.
